Running the web application locally

To run the application locally, we can call the app.py script, located in the arenaapp folder, using the Python executable. Open up a command line and pass a script argument:

C:Python36>python C:GeospatialPy3Chapter11Scriptsarenaappapp.py

To run this application on a web server is beyond the scope of the chapter, but it involves configuring a web server with a WSGI handler to allow for web requests to be processed by the Python executable and app.py. For Apache web servers, the mod_wsgi module is popular. For Windows servers using Internet Information Services (IIS), the wfastcgi module is very useful and is available from the Microsoft Web Platform Installer.

Explore more about Apache and the mod_wsgi module here: http://flask.pocoo.org/docs/latest/deploying/mod_wsgi/.

For IIS, these installation instructions are very useful: http://netdot.co/2015/03/09/flask-on-iis/.
