Now that we've installed the API on our machine, it's time to discuss how we can use it in combination with different Esri user accounts. As we've said before, the API has been created to manage and interact with a web GIS that can be located in a cloud environment. To be able to use the API and interact with this web or cloud GIS, we need some kind of additional Esri user account to make a connection with this web GIS. You can compare this to connecting to an FTP server or remote web server from your computer and performing a login procedure using a username and password (or token). This procedure ensures a secure connection between server and client and access to the right content.
