Introducing Darwin and the Mac OS X Command Line

Since the beginning of Mac OS X, a powerful Unix-based operating system has lurked beneath the wonderful, easy-to-use desktop and graphical elements. In a way, the graphical elements of OS X sit on top of the Unix environment referred to as Darwin.

In the next two chapters, you will get a quick introduction into the Darwin environment, the Unix shell, and the Terminal application so you can start to benefit from its vast abilities.
