Summary

In this chapter, you learned about the importance of supporting the Back button in the AJAX application. We looked at the Microsoft AJAX Library’s support for browser history through history points and Sys.Application. We looked at some simple examples and a control implementation, demonstrating how to support history in multiple independent controls. Finally, we added history support to the knowledge base case study application without affecting the application’s overall architecture.

At this point, you should be able to add history support to AJAX controls and components using Sys.Application history points, and you should be able to handle the navigate event to implement navigation.

By this point in the book, you should be comfortable building back-end data services using WCF and you should be proficient at creating AJAX components and controls using the Microsoft AJAX Library to implement AJAX applications. In the last chapter, I’ll show how you can apply these techniques to enterprise portal development using Microsoft’s portal server technology, Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
