Here’s the deal. I’ve told my boss that I can gure out Guy
Abercrombie’s crimes. He thinks I’m a hotshot economics expert
but my skills are, shall we say, a little rusty.’
‘So?’
‘You help with a crash course in nance. I do my best to save
your skin.’
‘No. Guy Abercrombie has nothing to do with me. He was an
ex-student of mine and I hadn’t seen him for ten years. I don’t
know how he made his money or who his enemies are. I have to
go to New York to deliver a course in two days. I want to go home
and see my nephew and go to sleep and wake up and forget all
this has happened. And I want you and whatever department
you work for to leave me alone.’
‘Of course,’ she said smiling. ‘A quick question rst.’
‘Yes.’
‘Would you like me to call the police and get you on the next
train back to France?’
‘No.’
‘I doubt whether a great big deported stamp is what you want in
your passport. I don’t think that will go down so well with your
international clients.’
