Objectives

If you have been using UNIX systems for a while, you have probably come across the term “kernel” before, but you may not know exactly what it is because it is not something you will interact with on a daily basis. In fact, you won't actually ever interact with it directly.

In this chapter we will look at what the Solaris kernel is and how it fits into the operating system as a whole. Following this we will look at some of the tools available to help troubleshoot operating system problems. We will also look at kernel modules, kernel parameters, and kernel messages.
