Preface

The demand for high data throughput and channel capacity in modern wireless communication has been the primary motivation behind the development of printed antennas. The printed antennas have become integral part of the next generation wireless communication and are found to be commonly used to improve system capacity, data rate, reliability, etc. In this book, theory, design techniques, and a chronological regression of the printed antennas for various applications are covered. The primary objective is to focus on the different techniques used by the researchers for the design of printed antennas.

The printed antennas are highly in demand in communication engineering, biomedical sciences, crop harvesting, energy harvesting, etc., which makes it necessary for the students of colleges and universities worldwide to attain good knowledge of theory and design of printed antennas. Also, this has caused a huge interest among researchers and scientists to work on printed antennas. Although the printed antennas are in practice from 1970 and a lot of research work has been done in this field, the application areas of printed antennas are still increasing day by day. The availability of books and other reference materials to the students and researchers who wish to gain good knowledge about printed antennas and related theories is limited.

This book will help the worldwide learners of antennas to understand the theories of printed antennas and their applications. It will be useful in designing antennas and making out future scope of work in this field. It presents most of the issues that are directly related to the new age technologies in printed antennas. Even the researchers in this field will be benefitted from the ready reference and techniques of research in printed antennas included in this book.

The main objective of this book is to introduce the basic theory, analysis, design, and developing techniques of printed antennas. Each chapter contains simple and easy to understand analysis concepts of various types of printed antennas and their characteristics. In addition, this book consists of a number of graphical representations, values of design parameters, experimental results, and references. An adequate number of topics are covered, so that the book will help the students who wish to pursue bachelor/master degree, research, and career in the field of antennas. Also, this book will provide the reader with the basic conceptual knowledge about antennas along with the advanced techniques of antenna design.

We, the editors, wish to acknowledge all the contributors and the publisher for shaping this book. Many thanks go to all authors who provided their invaluable time and suggestions during the completion of this book.
