Specifies the number of I/O slaves the ARCH process uses to archive redo log files. The ARCH process and its slaves always write to disk. By default, the value is and the process does not use I/O slaves. Ordinarily, this parameter is adjusted when an I/O bottleneck has been detected in the ARCH process. Such I/O bottlenecks typically occur on platforms that do not support asynchronous I/O or that implement it inefficiently.
