Acknowledgments

I would first like to thank my wife, Shelley. Without her loving and prayerful support, this simply would not have happened. I could fill the rest of the pages in this book with words attempting to express my gratitude, and it still would not be enough to convey how much you have supported me. Also to my mom, my brother Steve, my sister Joli, and the rest of my family, thank you so much for your kind encouragement throughout this adventure.

I have had the great opportunity to work with many wonderful people who have influenced my career and provided wisdom, guidance, and friendship. Thanks to Dave Sammons and Mike Taylor for sharing so much insight on what it takes to collaborate and work as a team and for being such good friends. Thank you, Kevin Austin, for giving me the opportunity to learn, research, and grow as a professional. Thanks to Jim Bish for knowing pretty much everything. Thank you to everyone else at Inlet Technology; my time there has proved to be invaluable. I also want to thank my friends and colleagues at Clark Nexsen, where I have been given the opportunity to grow and learn in such a wonderful working environment, which I could never take for granted. Thanks Johan, Tom, Scott, Willie, Mickey, and Bobby. You guys are the best! Thanks also to Bob Middlebrooks for getting me started with Revit and for being a great mentor.

I cannot bypass the opportunity to thank all the incredible people at Sybex. Thank you, Willem, for taking a chance on an inexperienced author. Thank you, Susan and Christine, for being such great editors who, despite my inexperience, never made me feel out of place. I'm sure there are many others who have worked hard to bring this book together. Thank you, all! Thanks also to Marvin, Simon, and Steven. It has been a pleasure to work with you.

To my wife, Tammie, thank you for your support through the long nights of patiently waiting while I was doing research and writing on this book. I would also like to thank my son, James Isaac, who really inspired me the most by reminding me that through hard work and dedication anything is possible.

To all my friends, thank you for all your support. Also, I dedicate this book to my good friend and colleague Dan Farmer who went on to meet the Lord during the writing of this book. He always had kind words and was supportive of the tasks that I took on for Michael Brady Inc. To Mike Brady and Louis Cortina, thank you for the time needed to write this book; also to Jeremy Nichols and Eric Baker who kept production going when I needed to find a secluded corner to write in and to Stanley Wolfson for the opportunities to share my plumbing knowledge of BIM with ASPE.

A special thank-you to Don, Simon, Susan, Willem, Pete, and Steven. All of you taught me so much about writing; I could never repay you for this experience.
