The measures in the patient- and caregiver-centered experience of care domain are determined using information from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey. The HCAHPS survey is administered to a random sample of Medicare patients shortly after they are discharged from the hospital. More than a dozen questions focus on the eight measures listed here:
- Communication with nurses
- Communication with doctors
- Responsiveness of hospital staff
- Communication about medicines
- Cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment
- Discharge information
- Overall rating of hospital
- Three-item care transition
