Specifies the maximum number of segments in the system that may have space management activities performed simultaneously by different instances. The default is sufficient for most applications. If tables acquire new extents frequently, the value can be increased to two or three times the number of tables that different instances extend simultaneously. Approximately nine distributed locks dedicated to coordinating space management activities are required by each segment that undergoes simultaneous space management in a parallel server. The total number of distributed locks reserved by this parameter is therefore approximately 9 × GC_SEGMENTS.
