Synopsis

Values:Minimum is the current actual number of datafiles in the database; maximum is operating system dependent, and can be no greater than the value that was specified in the MAXDATAFILES clause the last time CREATE DATABASE or CREATE CONTROLFILE was executed.

Default:Operating system dependent

Multiple Instances:Must have the same value

Specifies the number of database files that can be opened for this database. This parameter is normally set to the maximum number of files, subject to operating system constraints, that will ever be specified for the database, including files to be added by the ADD DATAFILE statement. If the value of this parameter is increased, all instances accessing the database must be shut down and restarted before the new value will be valid.
