Top-Level Design Documentation

Clearly show the major components and the services provided by the system in the top-level design. Here are the top-level design documentation tasks you must perform:

  • Describe the major components and their relationships.

  • Describe the user interfaces and interfaces to other computer systems, factories, stakeholders, and so forth.

  • Describe the business process flows through the system.

  • Determine the dependencies on external systems.

  • Develop a disaster recovery plan.

  • Identify the required “soft” infrastructure services—synchronized time Network Time Protocol (NTP), network management (Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)), systems management (Solaris web-based enterprise management (WBEM)), backup, restore, archive, directory, and so forth.

  • Identify the required “hard” infrastructure services—venue, physical access, and so forth.
