About the Authors

COL Robert A. Powell, PhD, was Academy Professor and Deputy Department Head of the Department of Systems Engineering at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He received a PhD in systems engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, an MS in operations research from George Mason University, and a BS in industrial engineering from Texas A&M. He was a member of the Military Operations Research Society, the American Society of Engineering Education, and the International Council on Systems Engineering. Sadly, COL Powell passed away shortly before this book was published.

Dennis M. Buede, PhD, is president of Innovative Decisions, Inc., a consulting firm in northern Virginia. Dr. Buede was formerly a professor at Stevens Institute of Technology and George Mason University. He received a PhD and an MS in engineering-economic systems from Stanford University. He has written numerous journal articles on decision-making, as well as two books: The Engineering Design of Systems and Decision Synthesis: The Principles and Practice of Decision Analysis. Dr. Buede is a Fellow of the International Council on Systems Engineering and belongs to the Military Operations Research Society, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and the American Society of Engineering Education.
