About the editors

Bill Cope is a professor in the Department of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Illinois. He is Principal Investigator for a series of five major projects funded by the Institute of Educational Sciences in the US Department of Education, leading a team in the research and development of an Internet ‘social knowledge’ platform, Scholar. He is also Director of Common Ground Publishing, located in the Research Park at the University of Illinois, developing semantic publishing software for schools and scholarly publications. From 2010–13 he was Chair of the Journals Publication Committee of the American Educational Research Association. Recent books include The Future of the Academic Journal (with Angus Phillips) (Chandos Publishing, 2014) and Towards a Semantic Web: Connecting Knowledge in Academic Research (with Mary Kalantzis and Liam Magee) (Chandos Publishing, 2011). He has one patent – and two patents pending – in the field of semantic publishing. With Mary Kalantzis, he is co-author of Ubiquitous Learning (University of Illinois Press, 2009), Literacies (Cambridge University Press, 2012) and New Learning: Elements of a Science of Education (Cambridge University Press, 2012). Angus Phillips is Director of the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies at Oxford Brookes University. He has degrees from Oxford University and Warwick University, and has many years’ experience in the publishing industry, including running a trade and reference list at Oxford University Press. He has acted as a consultant to a variety of publishing companies, and has trained publishing professionals from the UK and overseas in editorial, marketing and management. Angus is the author, with Giles Clark, of Inside Book Publishing (Routledge, 5th edition, 2014), and the editor, with Bill Cope, of The Future of the Book in the Digital Age (Chandos Publishing, 2006). His most recent book, Turning the Page: The Evolution of the Book, was published by Routledge in 2014.
