There's moreā€¦

SVG defines the graphics in XML format. Since it is a form of vector graphics, SVG files do not lose any quality if they are zoomed in on or resized. The SVG format not only allows you to store vector graphics in the working file, but it also allows you to store raster graphics and text, which is more or less similar to Adobe Illustrator's format. The SVG also allows you to group, style, transform, and composite graphical objects into previously rendered objects.

You can check out the full specification of SVG graphics at https://www.w3.org/TR/SVG.
