What’s Next?

A sense of purpose inspires the team and its supporters to do their best work. In this chapter, we looked at the three elements of purpose: the product vision, the team mission, and the mission tests. We described the two meetings that comprise team chartering: a prework session that inclues activities to develop and refine a preliminary purpose with stakeholders; and a team chartering workshop to refine the preliminary purpose with the team until a first draft is obtained.

In the two chapters that follow, we’ll focus on the next steps in the agile chartering agenda: creating coherence by facilitating alignment, and establishing an awareness of context for the benefit of the whole. But first, here’s a story about how clarifying team purpose led to increased team morale and higher performance.
