Sigfox topology

A Sigfox network can be as dense as one million nodes per base station. The density is a function of the number of messages sent by the network fabric. All nodes that attach to a base station will form a star network. 

All data is managed through the Sigfox backend network. All messages from a Sigfox Base Station must arrive at the backend server through IP connectivity. The Sigfox backend cloud service is the only destination for a packet. The backend will store and send a message to the client after authenticating it and verifying there are no duplicates. If data needs to be transmitted to an endpoint node, the backend server will select a gateway with the best connectivity to the endpoint and forward the message on the downlink. The backend has already identified the device by packet ID and prior provisioning will force the data to be sent to a final destination. In a Sigfox architecture, a device cannot be directly accessed. Neither the backend nor the base station will directly connect to an endpoint device. 

The backend is also the administration, licensing, and provide service for customers. The Sigfox cloud routes data to the destination the customer chose. The cloud service offers APIs via a pull model to integrate Sigfox cloud functions in a third-party platform. Devices can be registered through another cloud service. Sigfox also offers callbacks to other cloud services. This is the preferred method to retrieve data:

To assist with ensuring data integrity of the fire and forget communication model, multiple gateways may receive a transmission from a node; all the subsequent messages will be forwarded to the Sigfox backend and duplicates will be removed. This adds a level of redundancy to the reception of data.

Attaching a Sigfox endpoint node is intended to ease installation. There is no pairing or signalization.
