About the Editors


Cary L. Cooper is Distinguished Professor of Organizational Psychology and Health at Lancaster University, UK. He is the author/editor of over 120 books (on occupational stress, women at work and industrial and organizational psychology), has written over 400 scholarly articles for academic journals, and is a frequent contributor to national newspapers, TV and radio. He is Founding Editor of the Journal of Organizational Behavior and Editor-in-Chief of the medical journal Stress & Health. Professor Cooper is President of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, the Chair of the Academy of Social Sciences and Chair of The Sunningdale Institute in the National School of Government. In 2001, Cary was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his contribution to occupational safety and health. He holds Honorary Doctorates from Aston University (DSc), Heriot-Watt University (DLitt), Middlesex University (Doc. Univ) and Wolverhampton University (DBA); an Honorary Fellowship of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine in 2005, was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (Hon FRCP) in 2006, a Life-time Achievement Award from the Division of Occupational Psychology of the British Psychological Society in 2007 and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (occupational medicine) in 2008.

James Campbell Quick is John and Judy Goolsby Distinguished Professor, Goolsby Leadership Academy at The University of Texas at Arlington and Visiting Professor, Lancaster University Management School, UK. He is a Fellow of SIOP, APA and American Institute of Stress. He was honoured with a 2001 American Psychological Association Presidential Citation and the 2002 Harry and Miriam Levinson Award. He and his brother Jonathan originated preventive stress management, a term included in the 2007 APA Dictionary of Psychology. He has over 100 publications in 10 languages and holds a 2009 University Award for Distinguished Record of Research. Colonel (Ret) Quick was awarded The Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Award by United States Air Force. Dr. Quick was recognized with the Maroon Citation by Colgate University and the Edward J. Reifstack Character Award by the National Honor Society. He is married to the former Sheri Grimes Schember; both are members of the Chancellor’s Council of the University of Texas System; the Silver Society, American Psychological Foundation; and the President’s Club of Colgate University.

Marc J. Schabracq (1949, Amsterdam, The Netherlands) is a work and health psychologist. As an independent organizational consultant, Marc Schabracq has acquired much experience with the human aspect of change in organizations (organizational culture change, personal transitions, stress management, leadership and ethics) in a great number of profit and non-profit organizations. In addition, he has worked at the University van Amsterdam from 1973 to 2008, subsequently at clinical psychology, social psychology and – since 1987 – work and organizational psychology. He has produced more than 20 scholarly and professional books about psychology, as well as more than 100 articles and book chapters. In addition, he wrote 3 novels and a bundle of short stories.
