Chapter 11. Other Resources

In this book, I’ve written a lot about encouraging your creativity by following experts in the field. This section represents some of the best resources and tools I’ve found. If you find some that are missing, please email me at .

Twitter is an invaluable resource for all the latest happenings in the usability and user-experience (UX) world. Consider opening a Twitter account to follow these great resources:

Tools for Prototyping

There are many prototyping applications available to you, but these two seem to be the industry standards at the moment:

Balsamiq Mockups

With a focus on agility, Balsamiq is a great tool to communicate early mockups, layouts, and design. Balsamiq uses a hand-drawn effect for all of its widgets, which creates an experience that feels conceptual and iterative.

Axure RP Pro

Axure RP Pro provides a great deal of sophistication for a prototyping tool. Axure allows you to use widgets, and by adjusting their sketchiness, you can quickly change the fidelity of your prototype. Additionally, Axure RP Pro provides robust events and conditional framework so that you can set basic actions to occur in response to clicks and key presses.
