Huge shout out to all my assistants who have indulged me with their patience and kindness. Cheryl Chandler, Joe McJimsey, Daniel Valverde, Jan Northrop, Sharon Silverman, Mark Hartzell, J.P. Bernardo, Chris Miglio, Jen Krouse, Greg Dean, Katie Schaefer, Brandi Bradburn, Dan Holland, Daniel Simmons, Hunter Via, Meridith Sommers, Lauren Pendergrass, Melissa Brown-McCoy, Rosanne Tan, Carsten Kurpanek, Marissa Mueller (by proxy), Kelly Stuyvesant, Lissette Rodriguez, Ray McCoy, Drew Johnson, Dana Gasparine, Nancy Hurley and Hillary Wills. Thank you for bearing with me, and teaching me so very much. If I have missed someone’s name, please know I meant you too.

To my mentors, you have lighted my way. Thank you for your wisdom. Sincere appreciation goes to Mike Berman, Gene Ranney, Jimmy Honore, Gani Pastor, Jack Davies, Chris Holmes, Corky Ehlers, Danny Cahn, Sr., Danny Greene, Lou Lombardo, Bud Isaacs, Tony Gibbs and Graeme Clifford. You opened your hearts and editing rooms, and your teachings are a gift. A special place in my heart is reserved for Louie—his work opened my eyes, and I wish he were here to talk to.

My head is filled with the extraordinary teachings of my director, Mick Jackson. Over the course of twelve years, you taught me a new way of looking at dailies. I thank you for sharing your wisdom—each day brought a new pearl.

I loved working with you Michael Pressman. Your stories and dailies were always a treat. You helped temper my way.

I was honored to work with writer/director David Hollander on several projects. We cut outside the lines and you allowed the film to breathe. You are a wonderful, kind man. Thank you for waiting for me on Personal Effects. It is a personal favorite, and contains one of my favorite scenes I have ever edited.

For four years I had the pleasure of editing for producer/director Stephen Kay on Covert Affairs. It was a fun ride, and you helped me push the envelope. I have a tape of you inside my head.

To my editing colleagues, it has been a pleasure working alongside each and every one of you. I thank you for your notes and friendship. To all the interns, thank you for volunteering for everything. I love watching you all grow and learn.

I would like to acknowledge all my colleagues in the film industry in South Africa with whom I had the privilege of working for nearly twenty years. Mentors Ashley Lazarus and Jackie le Cordeur afforded me opportunities of learning the editing business and organized my apprenticeship at Pinewood Studios in London.

I will always be indebted to you for paving the way and introducing me to the world of film.

Moving to Hollywood with our family provided many challenges. We will always be indebted to Michael Campus who made it possible for us to make America our home.

I was honored to cut for many wonderful producers and companies. Each and every one was a learning experience that enriched my life. Journey Entertainment, FilmRoos, Stephen J. Cannell/New World Productions/Stu Segall Productions, Bunim Murray, MPH Entertainment, Leonard Nimoy Productions, National Geographic and Disney Educational Productions afforded me extensive opportunities to cut many forms of entertainment on film and tape.

Most importantly I wish to acknowledge my husband Lionel Friedberg who has shared my passion for films, film history and film music since we first met. He has been a constant inspiration, guide and a profound source of wisdom and knowledge. Together we have made over a hundred films for television and cinema. You have enriched my life and career beyond imagining. It is my fervent hope that we continue to share our love of filmmaking for many years yet to come.

To all the interns and assistant editors who have passed through the internship program at American Cinema Editors, I thank you for sharing your enthusiasm and friendship. It has been a great privilege to share my experiences with you and know that you will all be cutting your own shows. I look forward with great pride to reading your credits on the screen.
