We expect that most readers will have some familiarity with
XML. Even if your experience goes no further than
writing a few HTML pages, you’re probably in good
shape. If you’re not already familiar with XML, there
are many popular books, including Erik Ray’s Learning
XML [Ray03]. For a list of other
resources, consult Appendix C.
Note
The previous edition of this book described some of the
SGML-specific features available to users of the DocBook
DTD versions 4.x and earlier. In this edition, we
don’t cover SGML at all. Starting with DocBook
V5.0, DocBook is normatively an
XML vocabulary.
