AUTHORS

Rune Rasmussen is an independent analytics consultant with more than 15 years’ experience of implementing risk management and monitoring projects in the financial services industry. He holds a BSc degree in computing, a BA degree in mathematics/statistics and a MSc degree in computing with a focus on computational support in the statistical R package for Big Data analysis. He is a member of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT and a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society. He has worked with several large companies within the insurance, banking and investment sectors on projects to improve risk analysis governance, and regulatory and financial data analysis. Rune is the author of Chapters 1 and 3.

Harish Gulati is an analyst and modeller based in London. He has 15 years of financial consulting and project management experience across leading banks, management consultancies and media hubs. He is passionate about demystifying his complex field of work. This has led him to be a speaker at analytical forums. He has also authored the book SAS in Finance (2018) in which business cases are analysed using various statistical models. He is a trustee with Third Age Project, a charity working with the marginalised elderly in the UK. He has an MBA in brand communications and a degree in psychology and statistics. Harish is the author of Chapter 2.

Charles Joseph has been working in the areas of data governance and quality for 15 years, across professional services, insurance and retail organisations. He established Datazed Ltd in 2017 to provide consultancy services, demonstrating how good data management can support increased revenue, decreased costs and reduced risks. He was particularly keen to contribute to this book in recognition that there is an ever-increasing requirement for people who are trained to understand data, its uses and how to analyse it so that assessments can be made and questions answered.

Charles has a BSc in mathematics from Imperial College London and is a chartered fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. Originally from Liverpool, he now lives in London with his wife Lisa and four sons. Charles is the author of Chapter 4.

Clare Stanier is a senior lecturer in information systems at Staffordshire University. She has a PhD in computing (information systems) and she is a member of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT and a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She teaches, researches and publishes in the fields of data management and artificial intelligence. She is currently working on a number of research projects on digital innovation, Big Data applications and machine learning for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Before joining Staffordshire University, Clare worked for a number of different organisations, including the NHS and a national charity. Clare is the author of Chapter 5.

Obi Umegbolu is actively engaged with BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT as a data analyst subject matter expert in designing the UK government’s Data Analyst Apprenticeship Programme. His tasks with BCS include syllabus and examination bank development multiple choice questions (MCQs), as well as the Synoptic Project creation. Obi is currently a data analyst skills development coach in the emerging technology areas of Big Data and data science. He has been an advisor to several organisations looking to develop academic programmes related to data analytics and project management. Prior to his current role, Obi held senior analytical roles in data quality projects in public- and private-sector organisations in the UK and Africa. He is a certified PRINCE2 Project Management Practitioner and earned a BEng and MSc in engineering from University of Portsmouth, UK. Obi is the author of Chapter 6.
