The Requirements of the Building Regulations
This chapter provides a breakdown of the key elements of each Approved Document, showing not only each Regulation, but also an overview of the actual requirement ‘in a nutshell’. This acts as a good starting point to understand the Regulations, which are expanded upon in much more detail by specific building elements in chapters 6 and 7. The current editions of the Approved Documents are shown in Table 3.1 (as at 31 August 2017 when this book was submitted for publishing). All statutory instruments can be accessed at on the UK government legislation website (www.legislation.gov.uk) and the Planning Portal (www.gov.uk/government/collections/approved-documents). They can also can be purchased from TSO or RIBA.
If you intend to carry out work that involves any of these areas, you are recommended to view or download the appropriate instrument or purchase a copy for reference.
