Key Terms

CGI (Common Gateway Interface) The environment through which all Web-based programs are run by the Web server.

daemon A program that's run by the operating system itself; it acts as a request server for a specific protocol. Apache runs as httpd,a Web request server.

regular expression A pattern-matching expression that uses a wide variety of special characters to indicate sequences, selectors, and so on.

Exercises

First, go to the Web site http://www.intuitive.com/tyu24/ and explore the examples shown in this hour.

1:Congratulations! You just won £150! Use the Web-based version of Exchange to see how much that's worth in Japanese yen.
2:Poke around on your system and determine whether an httpd daemon is running. If so, find the configuration files and peek inside to identify where the source HTML files live in the file system.
