Hour 23. Working with the Apache Web Server

Throughout this book, you've learned about how to work with UNIX to increase your efficiency on your system. In the previous few hours, that has been extended to include The Great Beyond, the Internet. What you might not have realized, however, is that the history of the Internet is intimately intertwined with the UNIX operating system, and to this day the vast majority of Web sites are running UNIX as their underlying operating system.

Various Web server packages are available for UNIX, including most notably Netscape's suite of terrific commercial offerings. (The company actually produces quite a bit more than just the best Web browser on the market!) A strong competitor to Netscape on the server side is another server that's robust, capable, easy to configure, and free: the Apache Web Server.
