Ed Lawler has devoted his career to studying the relationship between talent and organizations. He began his work as a graduate student at the University of California–Berkeley with research on motivation and satisfaction. Today, he is Distinguished Professor of Business at the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business. He joined USC in 1978, and in 1979 founded and became director of the University’s Center for Effective Organizations, which has been recognized by Fortune and other publications as one of the world’s leading management research organizations.

Ed has been honored as a major contributor to theory, research, and practice in the fields of human resources management, compensation, organizational development, and organizational effectiveness. BusinessWeek has proclaimed him one of the top six gurus in the field of management, and Human Resource Executive has called him one of the human resource field’s most influential people. Workforce magazine has identified him as one of the twenty-five visionaries who have shaped today’s workplace over the past century. He is the recipient of many awards, including the Society for Human Resource Management’s Michael R. Losey Award, of which he was the first recipient. He is also a consultant to many governments and corporations, including the majority of the Fortune 100 companies.

National television appearances include CNBC, CNN, MSNBC, and NBC’s Today. He is also a frequent speaker to executive and managerial audiences around the globe.

Ed is the author of over four hundred articles and 50 books. His previous book on talent management, Talent: Making People Your Competitive Advantage (2008), was a best seller. Reinventing Talent Management does not just update that book but redefines what talent management best practices look like. It is based on his many global studies of talent management policies and practices and his research on how organizations, people, and technology are changing.
