Appendix A. Useful Commands

This appendix is intended to be used as a quick reference that covers the details of some important commands mentioned in the text of Red Hat Linux 6 Visual QuickPro.

The following commands are discussed:

• find

• ftp

• ls

• ps

• vi

If you are going to be doing much work at the Linux command line, I recommend the following two books:

• Linux in a Nutshell, 2nd Edition, by Ellen Siever (Sebastopol, CA: O'Reilly & Associates, 1999). This is a bare-bones but comprehensive book in the "Nutshell" style.

• UNIX:Visual QuickStart Guide, by Deborah S. Ray and Eric J. Ray (Berkeley, CA: Peachpit Press, 1998). This book does a great job of explaining how to use Unix commands.
