Abstract

A number of research studies about project manager skills needed in the future say that soft, or people, skills are core necessities during the next 10 years at least. Enthusiasm, persistence, and patience of the project managers are three key skills to achieve more successful projects in organizations. All best practice recommendations and key success criteria point to the importance of keeping enthusiasm, being persistent, and cultivating and exerting your patience, but few sources exist about how to develop those skills.

The aim of this book is to inspire and encourage project practitioners, executives, and beginners in the project management field and to develop passion, persistence, and patience inside them in order to be contagious with project stakeholders in organizations. The target audience are project managers, project leaders, and facilitators. The second audience are executives or managers who are, or will be, sponsors of a project or program. In reality, almost everybody does projects of some sort and will benefit from the guidelines presented.

This book portends a positive impact on project practitioners through sharing real examples, case studies, and checklists. The ideas and stories being told intend to help a reader increase his or her enthusiasm in managing projects, become aware of the need to insist and be perseverant when managing team members and other project stakeholders, and cultivate his or her patience through practices offered by the author.
