Part VI. Technical Reference

Chapter 18

Chapter 19

Part VI is divided into two chapters. Chapter 18 describes what is happening "under the hood" when you use Office Communications Server 2007 and Office Communicator 2007. This chapter provides an overview of the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) that is used to help establish communication sessions; the authentication technologies that are used to help establish secure communications; how requests are routed through the network inside and outside the enterprise; and, finally, some security concepts that should be considered.

Chapter 19 provides an overview of the architecture and the internal components that make up the Office Communications Server 2007. Office Communications Server 2007 differs from previous versions in that its architecture is comprised of distributed server components. This chapter describes each of the internal components that make up the Office Communications Server 2007, including the core, presence, conferencing, and voice components.
