Primary partition: One active per disk; bootable; one drive letter. |
Extended partition: Uses space not used by primary; one per disk; divided into logical drives; not bootable. |
Each disk is a single partition; contains one or more volumes. |
Simple volumes: FAT, FAT32, or NTFS; can be resized dynamically. |
Spanned volumes: Treat 2-32 disks as single volume; data stored sequentially; not fault tolerant. |
Striped volumes: Treat 2-32 disks as single volume; data is interleaved between disks; not fault tolerant; faster speed. |
