In this chapter, we went through the concept of customizing and extending an existing application or tool, what it means, and why you would be interested in it. In addition, we discussed what these terms mean to Watson—and how it can be customized and extended—to better fit your specific requirements. IBM SPSS modeler was introduced as a way of extending Watson to preprocess data, and finally a use case was covered to better illustrate the idea of extending a Watson Analytics analysis effort.

In the next chapter, we will prepare you to think more from an enterprise perspective when using IBM Watson.
