ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sonia Leong is an illustrator and a professional comic artist specializing in anime and manga. Her awards include Young Adult Library Services Association Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers and Best Books for Young Adults 2008, TOKYOPOP Rising Stars of Manga, and the NEO Magazine manga competition.

Manga Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet (Harry N. Abrams) was Sonia’s first graphic novel. She contributed to the Will Eisner Comic Industry Award-winning Comic Book Tattoo: Tales Inspired by Tori Amos (Image Comics) and recently published the graphic novel Marie Curie: A Graphic History of the World’s Most Famous Female Scientist (B.E.S. Publishing). Her work has appeared in Doctor Who: The Women Who Lived (Penguin Group UK), Domo: The Manga (TOKYOPOP), and Bravest Warriors: The Search for Catbug (VIZ Media). Sonia also illustrated the I Hero (Hachette), Girls F.C. (Walker Books Ltd.), and Ninja (Barrington Stoke) children’s book series.

Sonia works in other fields as well, including design, film and television, fashion, and advertising. She serves as the company secretary for Sweatdrop Studios, a leading comic collaborative and independent publisher of manga based in the United Kingdom.
