Apache Drill is one of the most popular open source software framework versions in Google’s Dremel system, which is a schema-free SQL query engine for MapReduce, NoSQL, and cloud storage. Drill follows a distributed shared-nothing architecture that facilitates incremental scale-out with low-cost hardware, in order to match growing demands for user concurrency and query responses.
The framework is quite popular, due to its connectivity to a variety of NoSQL databases and filesystems, including HBase, MongoDB, MapR-DB, HDFS, Swift, Amazon S3, Tableau, NAS, Azure Blob Storage, Google Cloud Storage, and local files.
