Part One
LAYING THE FOUNDATION
Part I of Eat, Sleep, Innovate lays the foundation for the argument of the book.
- Chapter 1 and its companion case study details the book’s core terms of reference, most notably the idea that a culture of innovation is one in which the behaviors that drive innovation success come naturally.
- Chapter 2 describes the core challenge facing organizations seeking to create such a culture: institutionalized inertia powered by the shadow strategy. Its companion case study shows how DBS overcame this challenge.
- Chapter 3 and its companion case study develop the idea of behavior enablers, artifacts, and nudges (BEANs) to encourage desired behaviors and overcome identified blockers.
- Finally, Chapter 4 provides a detailed view of how to run a six-week culture sprint capped by a two-day activation session that includes structured “BEANstorming.”
