Chapter 7. Taking It to the Enterprise

In this chapter, we will prepare you to think from an enterprise perspective when using IBM Watson. We've broken down the chapter into the following topics:

  • Understanding the enterprise perspective
  • An enterprise Watson roadmap
  • Upgrading your Watson edition
  • Next steps
  • An enterprise use case

Introducing an enterprise perspective

In this book, we started out by providing a definition of Watson and then walked you through accessing the tool for the very first time. In addition, we covered the Content Analytics architecture; discussed what a classic analytics cycle involves; explained the term use case; covered detailed building collections using Watson to Explore, Predict, and Assemble insights; and saw how you can customize and extend your Watson experience.

At this point, you should be somewhat comfortable with what might be referred to as tactical Watson use and are now ready to consider Watson from a strategic or enterprise perspective. When we say strategic, we mean doing things in a proven way and, specifically, looking for opportunities to gain an edge through the development and management of (Watson use) knowledge (and knowledge objects of your Watson collection).
