My Menu Settings

My Menu is designed to give you access to the six most referenced menu items. The majority of menu items are available for registering to My Menu. Once you have registered these frequently used menu items, you need only to access My Menu, and the specific menu option listed, to have the same access (and the same interface) that you would have if you navigated through the full menu structure.

Register To My Menu

When you select the Register To My Menu option, the camera displays the start of over 110 menu options to choose from (see the right-hand panel in figure 13-1 below). Use the Quick Control Dial or the Multi-controller’s joystick to scroll through this list, placing the green-bordered rectangle on the menu option that you want to register to My Menu. Press SET, select OK, and press SET. Be patient; it takes about a second and a half for the registration to complete. Once a menu option is registered to My Menu, it is still listed, but in gray. When you have completed registering menu options (up to a total of six), press the MENU button to return to the top level menu for My Menu.

Sort

In today’s world, most people think of sorting as arranging in a progressive order: A–Z, Z–A, 1–100, 100–1, etc., and that is not what this sort does at all. I would think that the word arrange might be more appropriate. In this implementation, when you choose Sort, the Sort My Menu screen opens, showing a list of all the registered menu options. You then use the Quick Control Dial or the Multi-controller’s joystick to select a menu option that you want placed higher or lower in the list. Then you press SET or the Multi-controller’s button to select that item, and use the Multi-controller’s joystick to move the selected item up or down in the list. Again, press SET or the Multi-controller’s button to fix the item at that position in the list.

Delete Item/Items

After working with My Menu for a bit, you may determine that there are menu options that would serve you better if they were included in My Menu. If you don’t have six menu options already registered in My Menu, then simply start at the top with Register To My Menu. If the list of registered menu options is at six, then something must be removed to make room. Select the Delete Item/Items option, and (as seen in figure 13-3 below), use the Quick Control Dial or the Multi-controller’s joystick to select the menu option to be deleted. Press SET or the Multi-controller’s button. You will get the confirmation screen shown in the right-hand panel in figure 13-3; select OK and press SET. You now have an empty slot for adding a different menu option.

Delete All Items

If you decide that it’s quicker to erase all currently registered menu options and start over, then select the Delete All Items option and press SET. On the confirmation screen, select OK and press SET. Now you have a clean slate and can build My Menu from the ground up.

Display from My Menu

With the option set to Disable, when you press the MENU button, the camera’s menu structure will open to the last menu opened. But if you set this option to Enable, when you press the MENU button, the menu structure will open to My Menu, regardless of which menu you were last working with. If you find that you’re going to My Menu frequently, you may decide that this is the better arrangement for you.
