Why does the Welcome to Windows Media Player window appear when I try to play a video or sound?

The first time Windows Media Player starts, the Welcome to Windows Media Player window appears, asking you to choose your settings for the player. In the window, click Recommended settings, and then click Finish. These settings make Windows Media Player your default program for playing sound and video files and allow the program to automatically retrieve information for your media files online.

Images
Can I use the entire screen to view a video?

Yes. You can use your entire screen to view a video. While watching a video, position the over the Windows Media Player window, and then click Images at the bottom-right corner of the window. The video will continue playing using your entire screen. To once again view the video in a window, click Images at the bottom-right corner of your screen.

PLAY MUSIC WINDOWS 8 STYLE

New to Windows 8 is the Music app. From the Music app, you can choose what music you want to hear and learn more about your favorite musicians.

You can play the music you have stored on your computer.

What do the headings in the Music app represent?

There are three headings in the Music app. My music represents the music you have stored on your computer or SkyDrive; Xbox music store is where you can purchase almost any music from any artist; and Most popular is similar to the Xbox music store. In the Most popular section, the choices include today’s most popular artists.

Click any heading, and you can select your favorite genre. Many of the genres then display additional filtering of the genre.

From there you can select an album, preview the music, and, if desired, buy the album.

With the Music app, you have an opportunity to purchase additional music by your favorite artists.

How do I buy music from the Music app?

The Music app store uses a point system called Microsoft Points. You buy points though a secure Microsoft site by using a credit card. Microsoft tracks the points you have available, and then you can spend them as desired.

The first time you buy points, you are asked for your name, address, and phone number. You then must enter a credit card number for your purchase.

You buy points in lumps. The smallest amount is 400 points, which costs around $5.00, and the largest amount is 6,000 points, which costs around $75.00. A single song costs about 100 points, and a complete album costs around 800 points.

PLAY A MUSIC CD

You can use your computer to play music CDs while you work.

If this is the first time Windows Media Player starts, the Welcome to Windows Media Player window appears, asking you to choose your setting for the player. I suggest you choose Recommended settings and click Finish.

How does Windows Media Player know the CD cover and the name of the songs on my music CD?

When you play a music CD, Windows Media Player attempts to obtain CD information from the Internet, including the CD cover and track names. If you are not connected to the Internet or information about the CD is unavailable, Windows Media Player displays a generic CD cover and the track number of each song instead. If Windows Media Player is able to obtain the CD information, it recognizes the CD and displays the appropriate information each time you insert the CD.

Images
Can I play the songs on a music CD in random order?

Yes. If you want to play the songs on a music CD in random order, click Images at the bottom of the Windows Media Player window. To once again play the songs in numerical order, click Images again.

If you want to listen to a specific song from the CD, you can choose it from the library.

You can choose from media other than what’s on your CD. For example, you can choose music or videos stored in your Music or Video libraries, just as if you had accessed them from File Explorer. You can also view your pictures.

To select other media locations, click the appropriate library from the Navigation pane on the left side of the screen.

I have a lot of music stored on my computer. Is there a way to easily sort it?

Yes. Click Music from the Navigation pane, and then click whether you want the music sorted by Artist, Album, or Genre.

CREATE A PLAYLIST

You can create personalized lists, called playlists, of your favorite songs, videos, and pictures.

You can also change the order of the music by dragging a song title to the position you want it in the burn list.

Images
How many songs can I fit on a CD?

A CD holds about 70 minutes of music. If you add more than 70 minutes, Windows Media Player creates a Disc 2 and moves some of the music to the second disc.
