Chapter 13. Active Directory Security and Searching

IN THIS CHAPTER

  • Active Directory Object Security

  • Searching Active Directory

  • Examining Active Directory Objects

In the previous chapter, you learned the basics about working with the Active Directory Security Interface. You learned how to initialize an ADSI session and how to enumerate objects contained in collection objects. You also learned how to create a secure connection to an Active Directory server and what options to pass to maintain a secure session. You learned how to read the schema of an object to learn what properties are available, what their data types are, and how to interpret this on an unknown class type.

In this chapter, you'll dig a little deeper into some of the classes available in Active Directory. You'll learn about some of the other Active Directory classes that will extend your knowledge of the available classes. You'll also learn about the security objects within Active Directory and how you can query them to determine which groups have what permissions on a particular object. Finally, you'll learn how to use Active Data Objects (ADO) to query an Active Directory server to locate objects for which you don't know the Active Directory path.
