Named Stable Bases

This pattern was originally published in A Generative Development Process Pattern Language” (Coplien 1995).

Intent: How frequently do you integrate? Stabilize system interfaces no more than once a week. Other software can be changed and integrated more frequently (summary is from The Pattern Almanac 2000 (Rising 2000)).

Daily Build and Smoke Test

This pattern was originally published in “A Generative Development Process Pattern Language (Coplien 1995).

Intent: How do you keep the changes from getting out of hand and contain the potential for errors in the build? At least daily, build the software, and perform a smoke test to determine that the software is still usable.
