PART

When to Buy and Sell Investments

Even though I advocate (mostly) long-term investments, nothing is forever. In this part, we’ll look at the reasons to buy and sell. No matter how carefully you’ve researched and evaluated an investment, not every investment performs as you expected.

You’ll learn to recover from disasters, decide whether you should take action or sit tight, and distinguish temporary fluctuations from true changes in circumstances. You may choose to sell high and move some of your gains to investments that seem to offer a market bargain. If your investments have achieved the goal you set for them, you’ll be able to let the profits ride, or sell and use the money.

The final chapter in this part will point you toward resources to help you continue your education, augment your experience with the benefit of others’ years of investing, and gain opportunities to refine your analysis. And then, you will no longer be a beginning investor.
