About the Author

Described as an “Intellectual Shaman” in a book with that title, Raj Sisodia has been on a mission to bring purpose, caring and healing to business and capitalism since the 2007 publication of his groundbreaking book Firms of Endearment: How World Class Companies Profit from Passion and Purpose, which was named a top business book of 2007 by Amazon.com. Raj is a preeminent thought leader in the rapidly growing movement to redefine the purpose and role of business in society. He is cofounder and Chairman Emeritus of Conscious Capitalism Inc. and President of Awaken Inc.

Born in India, Raj spent parts of his childhood in Barbados, California, and Canada. He was educated as an electrical engineer from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science. He received an MBA in Marketing from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai and a PhD in Business from Columbia University.

Raj has published over 100 academic articles and 15 books including Conscious Capitalism: Liberating the Heroic Spirit of Business, Everybody Matters: The Extraordinary Power of Caring for Your People Like Family, Shakti Leadership: Embracing Feminine and Masculine Power in Business, Conscious Capitalism Field Guide: Tools for Transforming Your Organization, and The Healing Organization: Awakening the Conscience of Business to Help Save the World. His work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Fortune, Financial Times, the Washington Post, CNBC, and other media outlets. He cohosted a show on business for National Public Radio.

Raj is FEMSA Distinguished University Professor of Conscious Enterprise and Chairman of the Conscious Enterprise Center at Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico. He previously taught at Boston University, George Mason University, Bentley University, and Babson College. He has received numerous awards and recognitions, including an honorary doctorate from Johnson & Wales University and the Business Luminary Award from Halcyon in 2021.

Raj has consulted with companies around the world, including AT&T, Verizon, LG, DPDHL, POSCO, Kraft, Whole Foods Market, Tata, Siemens, Sprint, Volvo, IBM, Walmart, and McDonald’s. He served on the board of directors at The Container Store and Mastek. He lives in Boston, close to his beloved children: Alok, Priya, and Maya.
