How it works...

After installing the Internet of Things module, a new IoT menu will be displayed whereby you can connect your IoT Box with Odoo. In our recipe, we first used the automatic method to connect the IoT Box. This method will scan your local IP range to find a possible IoT Box. If any IoT Box is found, Odoo will add its entry as an IoT Box. Note that if you have multiple IoT Boxes in the network, this method will add all of them. If the IoT Box is already connected, Odoo will not add the IoT Box again.

The second method is the manual one. This method is useful when you have multiple IoT Boxes in the network and you just want to add some of them. In this method, you have to grab a token from the IoT Box popup. Then you need to open the IoT Box IP and add the token into the configuration. This will add the IoT Box into your Odoo instance.

If you want to add the IoT Box in Odoo instances during WiFi configuration, this is possible. In the Connecting the IoT Box with the network recipe, we kept the Server token field empty. You just need to add the server token in this step:

Avoid using the DHCP network when using the IoT Box. This is because the IoT Box network configuration is added based on the IP address. If you use the DHCP network, then the IP address is assigned dynamically. So there is a chance that your IoT Box will stop responding due to the new IP address. To avoid this issue, you can map the MAC address of the IoT Box to the fixed IP address.
