CREATE STICKY NOTES

You can create electronic sticky notes that are similar to paper sticky notes.

Sticky notes are useful for storing small pieces of information, such as to-do lists, phone numbers, short notes, and reminders. You can create as many sticky notes as you need.

Can I change the color of a sticky note?

Yes. To change the color of a sticky note, right-click the note you want to change. On the menu that appears, click the color you want to use for the sticky note: Blue, Green, Pink, Purple, White, or Yellow. The sticky note will appear in the new color.

How do I delete a sticky note?

To delete a sticky note you no longer need, position the over the top of the sticky note and then click Images. In the confirmation dialog box that appears, click Yes to delete the sticky note.


USE THE CALCULATOR

Windows provides a calculator that you can use to perform calculations.

You can use the Calculator to perform the same calculations you would perform on a handheld calculator.

Can I enter numbers using the keys on the right side of my keyboard?

Yes. To use the number keys on the right side of your keyboard to enter information into the Calculator, make sure the Num Lock feature is on. To activate the Num Lock feature, press the Images key on your keyboard.

What else can the Calculator do?

Images You can use the Calculator to convert values from one unit of measurement to another, such as Celsius to Fahrenheit or pounds to ounces. To do so, click View in the Calculator and then click Unit conversion on the menu that appears. An area appears where you can perform unit conversions.

Images You can also use the Calculator to calculate mortgage payments, lease payments, and fuel economy. To do so, click View in the Calculator and then click Worksheets on the menu that appears. Click the worksheet you want to use, and an area appears for you to perform the calculation.

Note: To return to the basic view of the Calculator, click View and then click Basic.


WRITE WITH WORDPAD

You can use WordPad to create and edit documents, such as letters and memos.

If you need more advanced features than WordPad provides, you can obtain a more sophisticated word processing program, such as Microsoft Word.

How do I open a document I saved?

To format text in a document, drag the across the text to select the text you want to format. You can then use the following tools from the Ribbon to format the text:

Images Change the text font.
Images Make the text larger or smaller.
Images Bold, italicize, or underline the text.
Images Highlight the text with a color.

Images Change the text color.

How do I format text in a document?

To open a document you saved, click the File tab. From the menu that appears, click the document you want to open from the Recent documents list. If the document you want does not appear in the Recent documents, click Open. In the Open dialog box, click the document you want to open and then click Open.

Note: If you are currently working with a document, make sure you save the document before opening another one.


DRAW WITH PAINT

Paint is a simple program you can use to draw pictures on your computer. You can also use Paint to draw in existing pictures.

If you need more advanced features than Paint provides, you can obtain a more sophisticated drawing program, such as Corel PaintShop Pro.

Can I cancel a change I made?

Yes. You can fill a shape or your entire drawing with color. Click the tool and then click the color you want to use. Then click the inside the shape you want to fill with color. If you want to fill your entire drawing with color, click a blank area in your drawing.

Can I fill an area with color?

Yes. Paint remembers the changes you make to a drawing until you close it. If you regret a change, you can click the Undo button at the top-left corner of the Paint window to cancel the last change you made. You can click the Undo button repeatedly to cancel previous changes you made.


Create the different looks you want for your drawing by using the various tools provided.

Tools included with Paint are the Pencil, Brush, Fill with Color, Text, and Eraser.
You also get seven different brush styles you can use, including a standard brush, a calligraphy brush, and a watercolor brush.

How do I print a drawing?

If you want to print your drawing, click the File tab, and then click Print. Click Quick print, and then from the Print dialog box that appears, click Print to print your drawing. Before you print your drawing, make sure your printer is turned on and contains paper.

How do I open a drawing I saved?

To open a drawing you saved, click the File tab. From the menu that appears, click the drawing you want to open from the Recent pictures list. If the drawing you want does not appear in the Recent pictures list, click Open. In the Open dialog box, click the drawing you want to open, and then click Open.

Note: If you are currently working with a drawing, make sure you save the drawing before opening another one.


SCHEDULE WITH THE CALENDAR

Make your plans with the Windows Calendar. You can schedule appointments for a specific time, or you can create an all-day event.

Upcoming appointments appear on the Start screen in the Calendar.

Instead of viewing the entire month, can I view the calendar in different increments?

Yes. You can view the calendar by the week or by two days at a time. Right-click anywhere on the Calendar screen, and from the bar that pops up at the bottom of the screen, choose Day, Week, or Month.

How do I view a different time period?

You can scroll to the previous or next month, week, or day. Click Images to see the previous dates, or click Images to see the upcoming dates.

If you don’t see Images or Images, click the anywhere along the top of the calendar.


If needed, you can easily change the appointment by revising the date, time, or location.

You can also delete unwanted appointments.

Can I set an appointment to last all day?

Yes. From the appointment Details screen, click the How long arrow and choose All Day. The Start time setting becomes unavailable.

Can I set an appointment to recur periodically?

Yes. From the appointment Details screen, click the How often arrow, which displays a menu of options. Choices include Once, Every day, Every weekday, Every week, Every month, and Every year.
