A gauge is a metric aggregation that provides visualizations that are used to show how a metric value relates to the predefined thresholds/ranges. For example, this visualization can be used to show whether a server load is within a normal range or instead has reached critical capacity. It is a new visualization that was introduced in Kibana 5.5.
