What is the secret of success of organisations? Why do highly reputed organisations with phenomenal resources and analytical capabilities fail all of a sudden? More often than not, the answer to these questions will reveal the need for treating organisational behaviour as a strategic resource in the new world organisations. This book by Prof. James is unique as it provides this strategic treatment to organisational behaviour. Through 23 chapters, which dwell deep into the nuances of organisational theory and practices, Dr James takes a novice into a field to an adequate level of expertise which enables him/her to master the art of managing the softer side of organisations. This book also provides interesting insights on the contemporary topics such as the impact of CSR, ethics, and spirituality and how these affect the behaviour of people in an organisational context. This book is great source of knowledge for the students in OB and I am sure that the book will be a great success in the near future.

I am glad that Prof. P. S. James has written a comprehensive book on organisational behaviour. He has covered all conceivable topics in OB. The chapters on the fundamentals of an organisation and fundamentals of behaviour are thoughtful and are an innovative inclusion in a book on OB. The role of our genes, the nervous system, and other biological systems in shaping our behaviour might initially look like a discourse on biology, but the author has connected every aspect of this discussion to our behaviour so well that most of would sit up and take note of the power of our body in shaping our behaviour and wonder why OB books had not thought of these earlier.

Prof. James is one of the finest OB and HR faculties. This book is a big milestone in his professional academic career. The text book gives great insight into the subject for students of HR and will be a source of future reference during their career as HR professionals. The lesson plan, content, and examples quoted in the book are relevant and easy to comprehend for students and faculties alike. The initial chapters are unique and summarise the behavioural synopses of the dynamics of an organisation in the context of changing times. It is my privilege to have gone through the draft copy of this book and I thank Prof. James for the same.

The thorough understanding of organisational behaviour is of paramount importance for any manager to be effective and efficient. I am very happy that Prof. P. S. James has provided a masterpiece in the form of this book on organisational behaviour. It is easy to read and offers a thorough, comprehensive, and contemporary understanding of the subject. The book with its 23 chapters has best coverage among all organisational behaviour books I have read. Contemporary topics such as spirituality, CSR, ethics, and the detailed coverage on culture, climate, conflict, power, and leadership makes this book a clear winner. It is for the first time I am seeing a book that projects organisational behaviour as a strategic tool for change. This makes it a ‘must read’ for managers and students alike.

Happy Reading!

Strategy, which we as experienced consultants often forget, is about human beings and the organisations they inhabit. Any strategy, however brilliant, is only as good as the results. Moreover, desired outcomes result from the quality of implementation of these strategies, which is a direct function of the human and organisational elements. Colonel James has written a book that serves as a timely reminder of these critical factors. The book helps us relook at the big picture, and at the same time, it also provides many practical nuggets, which are immediately implementable. Not merely for students and faculty, this book is a must read for me and my fellow consultants and equally for the CEOs we advise.

Prof. P. S. James has written a very useful and thought-provoking book on organisational behaviour. The content of the book is arranged in a very lucid way, which will attract and encourage the readers towards the field of OB. The distinct feature of this book, according to me, is how he has beautifully connected OB variables to functional areas such as marketing. For example, in the chapter on perception, values, and attitude, there is an insightful tabulation of how behaviour of people would affect the services marketing mix variables. This book will be very much useful for management students and professional managers alike because the concepts of OB are so well connected to the workplace. I wish the book a grand success!

Prof. P. S. James’ book on OB is one of the best, comprehensively written books that I have read so far on organisational behaviour. It is invaluable to both students and experienced OB professionals. It is an exciting addition to the body of knowledge with its unique structure of independent at chapter level and interdependent and integrated at theme level. The work has many creative aspects. The most important one I can see is how print and online versions have been combined, so that content versus space dilemma of a printed version is effectively overcome. The chapters on Sensation and Perception and Fundamentals of Behaviour are new and captivating - A must read for all.
