Steve Ross has been working in Ruby since before the first release of Ruby on Rails. He built a web app based on the pre-1.0 version of Rails and released it just after Rails released as 1.0. It is still alive and well today, albeit running Rails 3.2.

After his first experience with Ruby, Ross found that all other languages were "so yesterday", and while reluctantly willing to use Objective-C for some Mac development, felt like that added a ton of friction to the process of creating great software. He has tracked projects such as RubyCocoa, MacRuby, and with the release of RubyMotion became an early adopter.

He was the original author of the persistence gem MotionModel, which allows RubyMotion developers to work with and persist their data in a manner consistent with Ruby on Rails. As many of the backend applications are Rails, the portability of the syntax makes MotionModel a natural fit.

Ross is a partner in Calico Web Development, a company that specializes in Rails applications and now in Mac and iOS development thanks to RubyMotion. Perhaps, it's time for the company to change names.

He has authored some nine books and performed technical editing/reviewing on three or four others.
