Defining a Large Data Center

Throughout this chapter, the text has referred to “large data centers” and their economies of scale. A large data center may house from 500,000 to several million square feet of space, and may initially cost several billion dollars. FIGURE 16-4 shows, for example, the Google Data Center in the Netherlands, to help you better understand the size and scope of a large data center.
