In Chapter 5, we have seen how powertypes can help in providing a mechanism to solve many of the methodological problems that were outlined in Chapter 4, particularly in terms of the integration of the process and product aspects of a methodology. In this chapter, we illustrate how powertypes have been used in the definition of the international standard ISO/IEC 24744 “Software Engineering – Metamodel for Development Methodologies” [16] and its precursor, the Australian Standard 4651 “Standard Metamodel for Software Development Methodologies” [19]. Since there are only small differences between the two, we only use the former for illustrative purposes.
